Crime Doesn't Pay: Bulgarian Crime Boss Gunned Down By Sniper

Bulgarian mafia head Zlatomir Ivanov, nicknamed "The Beret", was hit four times by rifle fire in the legs, arms, and abdomen while arriving at court to appeal his sentence for masterminding smuggling operations.

44-year-old Ivanov was probably shot by a sniper located in a building across the street, according to police.

The drug lord was taken to a local hospital along with one of his bodyguards, who was also shot. "The Beret" was due to have surgery on the wounds.

Ivanov has been a suspect in various drug operations and accused of ordering several different murders.
