A loud protester nearly got the best of Michelle Obama late Tuesday night, as the FLOTUS threatened to leave a Democratic Party fundraiser in Northern Washington amidst shouting from 56-year-old lesbian activist Ellen Sturtz. The protester interrupted Michelle's speech to demand that President Obama sign an anti-discrimination executive order.
Michelle showed her annoyance by meeting Sturtz eye-to-eye, taking a pause, and stating "One of the things I don't do well is this. Do you understand?" Her statement led to applause from most of the guests, according to an official White House transcript.
A pool report from a reporter in the room quoted Michelle as saying "Listen to me, or you can take the mic, but I'm leaving. You all decide. You have one choice." The crowd urged Michelle to stay, and it was reported that a woman sitting next to Sturtz suggested that she leave.
Sturtz recounted the situation, claiming "She came right down in my face. I was taken aback." She added that she obliged to taking the microphone from Michelle, which she said flustered the first lady.
"I said 'I want your husband to sign the executive order.' Her husband could sign this order tonight and protect 22 percent of the work force in this country."
