Radio Facts Quick 5: With Warner Music Group’s Wilt Wallace @wiltwallace

1 Radio Facts: Tell us about your latest products

Wilt Wallace: Currently we are on our 2nd week at #1 on the Rhythm chart with Jason Derulo’s single “Talk Dirty”. Jason’s new album, also titled “Talk Dirty”, will be in stores this Tuesday April 15th. Also keep an eye out for Nico & Vinz “Am I Wrong”, it’s off to a great start at Top 40 and gaining some early interest at Rhythm as well

2 RF: You’ve worked in many capacities during your rise in the industry, which one taught you the most?

WW: Being an intern taught me the most, when you start at the bottom you gain an appreciation and understanding for every aspect of the business. It forces you to be humbled and learn as much as possible in order to grow.

3 RF Name 5 industry people that you greatly admire.

WW:  Lee L’Heureux – Hardest working person I ever met and great person of strong character. Peter Gray – Incredible Leader and motivator. Unmatched direction, execution and passion. Nicole Sellers – One of the most honest down to earth people I know. Orlando McGhee – My mentor in the game and one of the most knowledgeable people I know. Brannon Scales – The 1st person at a major label to believe in me and offer me an opportunity.

4 RF: What advice would you give someone just starting who wants to be were you are in half the time?

WW: Don’t be afraid to take risks! If you believe in something, don’t be afraid to stand up and fight for it. Early in my career I played it safe and didn’t speak up, by doing so, I think it took longer for my true talents and abilities to be noticed. Greater the risk, greater the reward.

5RF: How important are industry trades?

WW: Very important, in the “information age” there aren’t many things more important than information. The information provided by trades are a big asset to my work every single day.

shout out to Radio Facts for the dope write-up!

Well Damn!: T.I. Says Atlantic Records Didn't Like His Changed Rap Persona

Atlanta rapper T.I. went through some rough patches in his life during the mid-2000s, but since those troubles with the law, he's been a seemingly different man. His last two albums have documented more of his personal transformation and change, as opposed to the pimpin' and thuggin' to be found on his previous works.

In a recent interview with XXL Magazine, T.I. says Atlantic Records has not been supportive of his attempt to his clean his life up.

"Nah, Atlantic Records hated," said Tip. "Labels love hardcore T.I. That keeps the cash register ringing. They don't want me to go to prison and caught though. They want me to be the Teflon Don, and I can't blame them. That shit's sexy. But I'm older, man. I'm wiser, I'm calmer, I'm better, stronger. I'm ready for whatever tomorrow got coming."

2nd Warning!: Rihanna Warned by Label to Tone Down Wild Behavior

Rihanna's party girl antics are rubbing her label the wrong way, and the singer has reportedly been given a "written warning" by the label.

According to Adelade:

Her Diamonds World Tour hasn't slowed down her partying ways at all, and she's been seen on a number of wild nights out, including with model Cara Delevinge.  Jay Z, who runs Roc Nation, the label she's signed to, is apparently growing tired of her irresponsible behavior.

“Everyone can see Rihanna’s not behaving herself. Fans have paid hundreds of pounds for tickets and she’s regularly showing up hours late,” an insider told British magazine Look. “Then she often gives lack luster performances where she even forgets her words at times. They issued a written warning which was emailed to Rihanna.”

Let's hope Rihanna heeds the warning, as Jay Z is certainly not a man you want to piss off.

Top Spot: J. Cole's Born Sinner Is No. 1 Album In The Country

It happened a bit tardily, but J. Cole's sophomore album, Born Sinner, is now the no. 1 album in the country.

Also worth noting, Cole's new album has now sold more total copies than Kanye West's latest project, Yeezus. Despite both Born Sinner and Yeezus dropping on the same day, June 18, it's the former that has maintained slightly stronger support at registers and legal download outlets.

Reports Billboard: While J. Cole's "Born Sinner" was initially blocked from No. 1 on the Billboard 200, he celebrates his second No. 1 this week. In its third week on the chart, "Born Sinner" rises 2-1 with 58,000 sold (down 32%, according to Nielsen SoundScan). The set spent its first two weeks at No. 2—first stuck behind an also-debuting "Yeezus" from Kanye West, and then lodged behind Wale's "The Gifted" a week ago.

To date, "Born Sinner" has sold 439,000 copies, this week surpassing the cumu Hip-Hop Wiredlative sum of his original competition, "Yeezus" (431,000). Born Sinner sold 58,000 more copies this week, Wale's The Gifted 50,000 in its second week out while Yeezus sold 39,000, good enough to no. 3 on the Billboard 200 Album Sales chart. Cole spending two weeks as a runner up and then leapfrogging up a notch it no small feat.

Albums rarely climb to No. 1, as opposed to debuting in that slot. Since the chart started using more exact Nielsen SoundScan sales data on May 25, 1991, the vast majority of No. 1 albums were chart-toppers because they debuted there. It's unusual for an album to rise to the top, as most titles have their best sales weeks during their debut frame. And many albums cannot sustain momentum after their debut—at least not enough to compete with newer albums. The Roc Nation rapper will surely enjoy this moment.

Playing Catch Up: Apple To Unveil Internet Radio Service

Thanks to MP3s and a device called the iPod, as well as iTunes, Apple became a dominant player in the digital music business. Today at its annual developers conference, the brand will be unveiling its entry entry into the Internet radio service/music streaming game.

Reports the New York Times:

Now, Apple is giving online services another try, in an area where it has long been the leader: music. On Monday, at the opening of its annual developers conference in San Francisco, the company is expected to unveil an Internet radio service that will stream songs over a data connection instead of storing them on a device, according to people briefed on the negotiations. The service is expected to be free, but supported by ads.

With its Internet radio service, Apple will be following other online music services, like Pandora, Spotify and Rdio. But it could spread this type of music consumption further into the mainstream, some analysts say.

“The genius of iTunes 10 years ago was that they made the mainstream consumer understand what digital music was, and how it all worked,” said Russ Crupnik, an analyst at NPD Group who studies the digital music market. He said Pandora was mainstream, with 200 million registered users, but it was not a dominant global player, and that a similar service from Apple would expose more people to online radio.

The streaming music business is getting crowded. Besides the aforementioned Pandora and Spotify, Google launched it All Access streaming music service on May 15 while Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine hope launch their "Daisy" music subscription service sometime this year. Last week, it was reported that Jay-Z was close to signing a $20 million deal with Samsung that could potentially involve streaming music from his Roc Nation label.

Brooklyn rapper Foxy Brown had a chance to end her longtime beef with rival Lil Kim on Sunday at Summer Jam, but never showed up and blew her shot.

Fabolous brought Lil Kim out during his Summer Jam set, and reportedly intended to bring Foxy out as well.

Fab wanted to put them both on stage together to see if he could squash the drama. Unfortunately, Foxy was never able to get there and missed the set.

During her time on stage, Lil Kim did "Queen B***h" from her debut album "Hard Core," and was called the Queen of Brooklyn by Fab. Ouch.

Date Solidified: 2 Chainz Reveals Release Date For New Album

2 Chainz’ sophomore album doesn’t have an official name yet, but according to the Atlanta rapper it does have a release date. 2 Chainz spoke with MTV News on the set of B.O.B.’s new video for “Headband” and revealed he plans for his next LP to drop September 10th. That date is two days before his 36th birthday on September 12th.

“We should all celebrate the week of the 10th man, I’m just really adding gasoline or adding steroids to what I was already doing as far as locking down the club, locking down the streets,” said Chainz. “Just really giving it to you from my heart man and also enjoying life, enjoying getting this paper. You feel me?”

Chainz debuted his brand new single “”Feds Watching” this past Sunday at Hot 97′s Summer Jam. The track will be available for purchase next Tuesday.
