New Orleans Shooter Identified: Police ID 19-Year-Old Suspect

Police in New Orleans have named a 19-year-old man, accused in the weekend shooting during a Mother's Day parade. Akein Scott was identified through surveillance video which showed him first walking up to the shooting incident, and then running away.  Several witnesses positively identified Scott, who is still on the run. "The important thing for Akein Scott now is to turn himself in," Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said yesterday night.

Authorities searched three separate locations in hopes of finding the teen, and are assured that he will be brought to justice. "We are coming to find him. We will find him," Serpas added.

A total of 19 people, included two 1o-year-old children, were injured in the incident.

Although a motive has not been announced, Scott has a previous rap sheet. In February 2012, he was arrested for and charged with illegal possession of a firearm. Nearly a year later, the youngster was popped on charges of resisting arrest, possession of heroin and stolen firearms, illegally carrying weapons, and illegally carrying weapons with a controlled dangerous substance. Most of the aforementioned charges were dropped.

Police originally believe three people carried out the shootings, it is unclear if they are in search of additional suspects.

12 shot, including 10yo child during Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans

Twelve people are being treated for gunshot wounds following a shootout at a second line parade on Mother’s Day in New Orleans. The youngest victim in the surprise attack was 10 years old, according to a local resident.

Over 100 people were participating in the residential festival, on Frenchmen Street, in the north of the city, when several shots were fired. The incident occurred around 2pm local time on Sunday.

Police confirmed the number of casualties stood at 12 following some discrepancies in initial hospital reports, suggesting that between five and 11 may have been injured.

Police believe three suspects were responsible for the gunfire. A door-to-door search is being conducted in the hopes of tracing one or more of them.

“The shots just started ringing out, and everybody just started running, and the next thing I heard, 10-15 people got shot,” one witness told local station WDSU.

No fatalities have been confirmed, but three are reportedly in a critical condition.

A week ago, police were also called out to investigate a triple shooting near the corner of Frenchman street.

Police and local media had appealed for anyone with information on the incident to contact crime stoppers in the hope of tracing the gunman, or gunmen.
